Memorizing several different formulas and stratagies, along with when and how to use them is crucial in any striving mathematician’s success. Sometimes the way to solve a problem might be as obvious as you could imagine, or it could take trail and error.
- Always check your answers. In math, the slightest mistake could throw your answer off by just enough to make you go crazy. Just take the problem step by step and confirm that what you’re doing is appropriate for the problem.
- Don’t be afraid to retry the problem. This has saved me several times during my Algebra II final, and I hope it could help you too. By retrying the problem, you give not only yourself another chance to comb through every step more carefully, but also the ability to see if your strategy is correct.
- Memorize. Review. Practice. It just has to be said. Practice makes perfect.
- A passion for math is absolutely the most important thing on this list. It gives meaning to continue your work.
But remember- the grade isn’t all that matters. Your understanding and familiarity with math will grow first, then your performance will follow soon after.
